Captain Scully Levin talks to colleague and friend, Captain Bruce Rowan, in the fourth episode interview of the Virtual Flight Safety School about Crew Resource Management (CRM).
Captain Rowan flew for SAA for 42 years, and his speciality was Crew Resource Management, which grew out of the Tenerife air disaster of 1977 where a KLM 747 and a Pan Am 747 collided, killing 583 people.
CRM centres around action centred leadership and decision making, and has become a standard in global aviation. In the interview below Scully and Bruce discuss the fateful United Airlines crash of 1978 over Portland Oregon, triggering CRM procedures as standard in the US.
