Epic E1000 AX secures FAA certification

Epic Aircraft marked a major milestone on July 21 with the FAA certification of its latest single-engine turboprop, the E1000 AX, as deliveries began during the height of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2025. The announcement signifies a pivotal moment for the Bend, Oregon-based manufacturer, reinforcing its growing presence in the high-performance turboprop segment.

The E1000 AX made its public debut earlier this year at the Sun ‘n Fun Aerospace Expo in Lakeland, Florida, where it drew attention for its cutting-edge features and updated systems. As the newest evolution of the original E1000—first certified in 2019—the AX variant builds upon the success of the E1000 GX, a model that in 2024 was hailed by AOPA as a “showstopper” thanks to its size, speed, altitude capability, and superior cabin comfort.

What distinguishes the E1000 AX is its integration of Garmin’s Autothrottle and Autoland systems, features that introduce an additional layer of automation and safety to the platform. While Autothrottle is available now, Autoland will be activated following final certification, according to Epic’s press release. The company did not specify a timeline for that activation, but the promise of a fully autonomous landing capability positions the AX as one of the most advanced aircraft in its class.

Epic Aircraft CEO Doug King noted that interest in the AX has already translated into strong sales, calling July a record-breaking month that followed a similarly robust quarter. According to General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) data, Epic has delivered 82 aircraft through the first quarter of 2025, including 26 units in 2024 alone. Since the first E1000 was delivered in 2020, the company has steadily ramped up production and customer interest.

In terms of performance, the E1000 AX maintains the specifications that made its predecessor a standout. With a maximum cruise speed of 333 knots, a full-fuel payload of 1,177 pounds, and a maximum range of 1,560 nautical miles, the AX continues to offer exceptional versatility for owner-operators and corporate users alike. The aircraft can reach cruising altitudes up to 34,000 feet, matching its competitors in raw capability while adding the benefit of simplified cockpit operations.

Pricing for the E1000 AX begins at $4.7 million, with fully equipped versions approaching $4.85 million. While the avionics upgrades and automation add substantial value, Epic has maintained price consistency with the previous GX model—a decision likely to appeal to new buyers and existing customers considering an upgrade.

As deliveries of the E1000 AX get underway, Epic Aircraft cements its reputation as a force in the turbine-powered general aviation space, offering a compelling blend of performance, technology, and pilot-friendly innovation.
