Some of the best aviation performers in the world displayed at the Virginia Airshow which returned in full force to the skies of Durban on 9 September 2023.
Saturday 9 September saw the skies of Durban treated to the roar of South Africa’s most magnificent aerobatic aircraft as one of the most popular South African airshows returned to Durban.
For the first time in eight years, the Virginia Airshow was back. With the Indian Ocean as the perfect backdrop for these incredible displays, this event turned out to an action-packed family day out.
Spectators enjoyed dramatic theatre in the sky and a range of ground exhibits, delicious food and refreshment stalls and activities for all ages to enjoy.
This year’s action-packed lineup included displays by The South African Air Force (SAAF), the talented Andrew Blackwood Murray, 5-time South African aerobatics champion, Patrick Davidson, the Flying Lions, Marksmen Aerobatic Team, Juba Joubert, the Chipmunk Formation Team, Dave Mandel and his L39,a Beech 18, the Hollywoodbets Aviator and a flypast by Airlink.
Prior to 2015, the Virginia Airshow has a long and iconic history in Durban, with 57 years of spectacular manoeuvres and acrobatic flips thrilling thousands of spectators.
