Helicopter Institute (HI) is introducing the TH-66 SAGE training platform into the U.S. Navy’s Contractor Operated Pilot Training – Rotary (COPT-R) program at Meacham Airport, Fort Worth, Texas. The move modernizes Navy rotary training, phasing out legacy aircraft like the Bell 206B3 in favor of the turbine-powered R66-based TH-66 SAGE.
Already proven in the U.S. Army’s Part 141 Initial Entry Rotary Wing (IERW) program in Marianna, Florida, the TH-66 SAGE delivers more critical flight hours at a lower cost while maintaining high reliability and safety standards.
“The robust nature and reliability of the R66 platform make the TH-66 SAGE ideal for developing the next generation of military aviators,” said Randy Rowles, president of Helicopter Institute.
Support from Robinson Helicopter Company ensures rapid parts availability and maintenance directly from its Torrance, California factory, maximizing aircraft uptime and operational efficiency.
“As the only American-designed and manufactured helicopter in its class, the TH-66 SAGE embodies American-Made readiness,” said David Smith, CEO of Robinson Helicopter Company.
Configured specifically for military flight instruction, the TH-66 SAGE provides a cost-effective, reliable, and adaptable training solution and is set to become a next-generation standard in military rotary-wing training.
