Virtual Flight Safety School – Chalkie Stobbart, veteran SAA Captain

In episode three of the 2022 Virtual Flight Safety School, Scully Levin talks to veteran SAA pilot Captain Chalkie Stobbart about breaking a 70 year old aviation record – London to Cape Town and back.

In 1939 Alex Henshaw set the record for a solo flight from London to Cape Town and back to London in a Percival Mew Gull racing aircraft, completing the journey in four days, 10 hours and sixteen minutes.

This is Chalkie Stobbart’s story of how he shaved a mammoth 18 hours 59 minutes off ‘The Henshaw Record’.
