On 22 April 2023, at the Brakpan airfield, a combination of over 40 aircraft and helicopters will take to the sky to give more than 300 elderly people the experience of flying for the first time.
“We have a fleet in excess of 40 sponsored Aircraft ranging from Warbirds to General Aviation Fixed Wing and Rotary Wings,” said Felix Gosher, the event organiser. “The initiative focuses on underprivileged elderly people as well as military veterans.”
‘The Elders Flight’ event first originated at Rand Airport in November 2018 and was repeated again in November 2019. The following two years was cancelled due to COVID restrictions.
Early on in 2022, planning began for the 2023 event, with the re-launch at Brakpan Airfield.
The plan is to treat 300 Elders to the ultimate Aviation Experience, incorporating First Flights for the Underprivileged and Return to Cockpits for the many Military Veterans.
“Sponsors are required for this worthy event, and this year it has just exploded. We need many hands to take this bull by the horns,” said Felix Gosher. “We already have sponsors committing for the following years.”
Jeppe’s Boy High will also join the day to play the bagpipes.
