Soutpansberg Flying Club is proud to host the second annual Soutpansberg Fly-In on 28 & 29 July 2023 at the Louis Trichardt Civil Airport.
We invite pilots and aviation enthusiasts across the country to our beautiful airfield and town at the foot of the Soutpansberg mountain range, to experience the raw beauty of nature that the Limpopo Province can offer as well as enjoying the love of flying. Our passion to promote general aviation to the community drives the Soutpansberg Flying Club to host another successful event in 2023 and we are expecting double the turnout at this year’s event.
The Airshow, which begins at 12h00, will undoubtedly be Saturday’s high point. Aerobatic/flight displays by well-known flying teams will add excitement in the air. The PUMA Flying Lions, Jason Beamish, André van Zyl with his Gyrocopter, Trevor Warner with a two ship RV display and Grant Timms, to name a few, will be the centre of attention for the spectators.
A Model Aircraft display on Saturday, by André Beukes, Rudolf du Toit and Martin Erasmus will entertain the audience as they perform skilful, manoeuvres with various, radio-controlled aircraft featuring jets, helicopters and large-scale models.
SAPFA (South African Power Flight Association) has announced that the third leg of the Speed Rally Series would be held at Louis Trichardt – FALO. A total of 20 aircraft are expected to participate in the SAPFA Speed Rally #3 – A rally designed to pit elite aviators against fresh PPLs on an even playing field. A fun and fast paced, high energy environment for all aviators to enjoy flying in fair, challenging and safe flying format. If everyone flies the track according to their handicap speed, all the aircraft will cross the finish line at the exact same time, making for an overly exciting photo finish!
There’s a camp site with temporary ablution facilities including hot showers and pre-pitched tents with stretchers and sleeping bags. Pilots who prefer to spend the weekend camping in their own tent next to their aircraft, are more than welcome.
You can pre-book you tent, breakfast and fuel on the following Jofform link: https://form.jotform.com/SPBVliegklub/Soutpansberg-PilotRegistration
Local guesthouses in town are also available to accommodate visitors. Please send an email to spbvliegklub@gmail.com for more information regarding contact details.
Though pilots and planes are the centre of the event, there will also be arts and crafts stands, a variety of food vendors to suit everyone’s tastes and a full bar. Companies involved in aviation will promote their products and services as will local dealerships and businesses.
Live entertainment will include well-known artists Deon Groot and PROP. A fellow aviator and professional musician, Willem van der Ryst, will provide excellent entertainment on both Friday and Saturday evenings. Local resident Tjokker is also thrilled to perform during the weekend in front of his hometown.
The kids-friendly VOX TELECOM ZONE will have face painting, a jumping castle, paintball and tons more fun!! Friday afternoon at 15h00 the well-known “Bee-Bee die By” will entertain the little ones.

The Soutpansberg Flying Club is a non-profit organisation and consists of thirteen active members. As pilots ourselves, we are passionate about aviation and the future of the Louis Trichardt Civil Airport. The airport serves as the hub for all local flying activities and is also a vital source of external business and tourism into our lovely town, as all businesses and visitors from metropolitan areas such as Johannesburg and Pretoria use the facilities and airfield on a daily basis.
This facility includes the runway, taxiway, 17 hangars, and the terrain in general needs to be maintained in order to keep the airfield operational and within the industry safety regulations. This general maintenance and operational costs of the terrain and airfield are currently being financed by our own members.
With all the above reasons in mind, our members decided to organise and host the Soutpansberg Fly-In to raise funds to ensure the survival of the airfield and facilities.
