Rolls-Royce (LSE: RR., ADR: RYCEY) has announced that EGYPTAIR has placed an order for an additional 12 Trent XWB-84 engines to power six new Airbus A350-900 aircraft, reinforcing the airline’s commitment to fleet modernisation and operational efficiency.
This latest order increases EGYPTAIR’s total commitment to 32 Trent XWB-84 engines. The first of these new A350-900s is expected to enter service later this year, expanding EGYPTAIR’s long-haul capabilities and offering passengers a quieter, more fuel-efficient flying experience.
“We are proud to support EGYPTAIR in its growth and modernisation plans with our state-of-the-art Trent XWB engines,” Rolls-Royce said in a statement. “The Trent XWB remains the world’s most efficient large aero engine in service, delivering exceptional reliability and performance.”
A Proven Performer
Specifically designed for the Airbus A350-900, the Trent XWB-84 has already amassed over 10 million flying hours, making it one of the most successful widebody engines ever produced. Its advanced engineering delivers significant reductions in fuel consumption and carbon emissions compared to earlier generations, directly supporting airlines’ sustainability goals.
A Strategic Investment in Efficiency
The Trent XWB-84 is recognised as the best widebody engine in the world, engineered specifically for the A350 and chosen by the world’s most profitable airlines. Rolls-Royce has further improved the engine with the Trent XWB-84 EP (Enhanced Performance), delivering an additional 1% fuel burn saving — worth up to $5 million a year for the average fleet.
Rolls-Royce is also investing £1 billion across its modern Trent engine family to improve durability by an average of 80%, with a significant portion of these upgrades expected to be delivered in 2025. This investment ensures that customers like EGYPTAIR benefit from even greater reliability and lower operating costs over the long term.
TotalCare: Optimising Performance
The agreement includes Rolls-Royce’s industry-leading TotalCare service, which provides operational certainty by transferring time-on-wing and maintenance cost risk back to Rolls-Royce. Supported by advanced engine health monitoring, TotalCare helps airlines maximise operational availability, reliability, and efficiency — critical factors in today’s competitive aviation market.
Capt Ahmed Adel, Chairman of EGYPTAIR, commented:
“We are proud to strengthen our long-standing partnership with Rolls-Royce through the signing of this TotalCare contract for our Trent XWB-84 fleet. This agreement not only highlights our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of operational excellence but also marks a significant milestone in our collaboration with Rolls-Royce, ensuring the future success of EGYPTAIR with the addition of this advanced engine type.”
Strengthening Global Partnerships
This latest order underscores the strong and enduring partnership between EGYPTAIR, Rolls-Royce, and Airbus, bringing cutting-edge aviation technology to one of Africa’s leading carriers as it prepares to meet growing passenger demand and advance its sustainability ambitions.
