TAAG Angola Airlines Opens Abidjan Route, Expanding West African Connectivity

TAAG Angola Airlines has officially launched ticket sales for its new Luanda–Abidjan service, marking another step in the airline’s strategy to expand its footprint across the African continent and strengthen Angola’s role as a regional aviation hub.

The new route will commence on 6 April 2026, linking Luanda with Abidjan, one of West Africa’s leading financial and logistics centres. Flights will operate between Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport and Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport, enhancing connectivity between Southern and West Africa.

TAAG will deploy its modern Airbus A220-300 on the route, configured to carry 137 passengers, with 12 seats in Business Class and 125 in Economy Class. The service is scheduled to operate three times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, offering convenient daytime departures in both directions.

The introduction of the Abidjan service reflects a broader push by TAAG to develop a more competitive intra-African network. By linking Angola with a key Francophone market, the airline is positioning itself to capture growing demand for business and leisure travel across the region while also supporting trade and economic cooperation between the two nations.

Beyond point-to-point traffic, the new route is designed to feed into TAAG’s wider international network. Passengers travelling from Abidjan will have streamlined connections via Luanda to destinations such as Lisbon, Johannesburg and Cape Town. The airline has also indicated that future expansion could include additional long-haul links such as São Paulo, further reinforcing Luanda’s role as a transcontinental gateway.

The launch of ticket sales was marked by an official ceremony in Luanda attended by government representatives, members of the diplomatic corps, aviation stakeholders and TAAG executives. The event underscored the strategic importance of the new route not only for the airline but also for Angola’s broader ambitions in aviation and regional integration.

As African carriers continue to rebuild and expand their networks, TAAG’s move into Abidjan highlights the growing emphasis on intra-African connectivity—an area widely seen as key to unlocking the continent’s aviation and economic potential.
