NASA’s Moon to Mars Architecture is gearing up for humanity’s return to the Moon by as early as 2027, laying the groundwork for future Mars missions.

The Artemis programme, under this framework, will develop critical capabilities including crewed and uncrewed lunar transport, communications and navigation systems, sustainable human habitats, and robotic support infrastructure. The Lunar Gateway space station will serve as both a relay and staging post for missions to and from the lunar surface.
Ultimately, the goal is to establish a permanent human presence on the Moon—using lunar resources to support survival and operations—that will propel human exploration toward Mars in the mid‑to‑late 2030s. Developing advanced electronics such as radiation‑hardened communication, life‑support automation, and reliable navigation systems will be essential to mission safety and success on Mars.
