Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the parent of Malaysia Airlines, has doubled down on its next-generation widebody strategy — signing a firm order for 20 more Airbus A330-900s to expand its future A330neo fleet to 40 aircraft.
The announcement, made during Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s official visit to France, underscores Malaysia’s deepening ties with Airbus and its ambitions to strengthen regional and long-haul connectivity while modernising its fleet.

MAG first committed to the A330neo in 2022 as part of its widebody renewal programme. Four aircraft have already entered service on key international routes like Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne, Auckland, and Bali — each fitted with the airline’s new premium cabin design.
“The A330neo continues to deliver the right balance of efficiency, range, and passenger comfort for our network and growth strategy,” said Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, MAG’s Group Managing Director. “This additional order reinforces our vision of building a future-ready fleet that supports sustainable growth and delivers consistent value to our passengers.”
Next-Gen Comfort for Regional and Long-Haul Travel
Powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, the A330-900 can fly up to 7,200 nautical miles (13,300 km), making it perfectly suited for both regional and long-haul routes across the Asia-Pacific. The aircraft’s award-winning Airspace cabin promises an upgraded passenger experience, including more personal space, larger overhead bins, new ambient lighting, and the latest in-flight entertainment and connectivity.
Sustainability at the Core
The A330neo’s enhanced fuel efficiency aligns with MAG’s broader goal of reducing its environmental impact. Like all in-production Airbus jets, the aircraft can fly on up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) today, with Airbus targeting 100% SAF capability by 2030 — a key milestone for airlines aiming for more climate-friendly operations.
“This repeat order is a strong endorsement of the A330neo’s performance, versatility, and passenger appeal,” said Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales for Commercial Aircraft. “We’re proud to help MAG build a more efficient and competitive fleet for the future.” With the additional order, Malaysia Airlines is positioning itself to offer a modern, fuel-efficient, and premium travel experience — boosting its competitiveness in key international markets while keeping sustainability in focus.
