IndiGo Converts MoU to Firm Order for 30 Additional A350-900s

India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has converted a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in June into a firm order for 30 Airbus A350-900 aircraft, bringing its total A350 orders to 60 aircraft. The expanded fleet will support IndiGo’s entry into the long-haul international market, leveraging the A350’s fuel efficiency, range and passenger comfort to strengthen its global presence.

“Today is a special day for IndiGo as we solidify our commitment to expanding our international footprint and offering unparalleled connectivity to our customers,” said Pieter Elbers, CEO, IndiGo. “These aircraft will play a pivotal role in enabling IndiGo to connect India with more destinations across the globe and offer our customers new international travel opportunities.”

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, EVP Sales, Commercial Aircraft at Airbus, added, “The A350’s unparalleled fuel efficiency, range and passenger comfort perfectly align with IndiGo’s ambitious growth plans. We look forward to supporting their expansion into new long-haul markets.”

India, the world’s fastest-growing aviation market, is experiencing a surge in international travel as economic growth and household incomes rise. Airbus has been a long-term partner in India’s civil aviation development, with the A320 Family supporting domestic growth and the A350 enabling Indian carriers to expand into international markets.

The A350-900 is the world’s most modern and efficient widebody aircraft in the 300–410 seat category. Its advanced aerodynamics, new-generation engines and lightweight materials deliver a 25% advantage in fuel burn, operating costs and CO₂ emissions compared to previous-generation competitors. It is already capable of operating with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with Airbus aiming for 100% SAF capability by 2030.

As of September 2025, the A350 program had received more than 1,400 orders from 63 customers worldwide, cementing its position as the reference aircraft for airlines seeking efficiency, comfort and long-range capabilities.
