A Delta Air Lines aircraft clipped another Delta plane during a routine pushback at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Sunday morning. The incident, involving flight DL1830 en route to Guatemala City, occurred as the jet manoeuvred away from the gate.
On board were 192 passengers, two pilots and four flight attendants. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported. The affected aircraft was swapped out, and passengers were accommodated on a replacement jet, resulting in a delay approaching four hours. Despite the disruption, Delta reassured travellers that their safety remained the top priority and issued an apology for the inconvenience.
Pushback mishaps are relatively rare but serve as reminders of the tight coordination required between pilots, ground handlers and tug operators at one of the world’s busiest airports. While operations resumed smoothly, the episode underscores the importance of rigorous safety protocols even in seemingly routine ground activity.
