Top Gun 2 hitting the big screen

Its official! Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to perhaps one of the most iconic aviation films ever produced, roars into cinemas on the 23rd December 2020.

Tom Cruise is back as the inimitable Pete Mitchell, training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialised mission that includes the son of his late friend Goose.

The film features plenty of aerial and stunt action, with Cruise, who earned his pilot’s license in 1994, doing some of his own flying. According to US regulations, civilians are not allowed to fly military aircraft, but when we see Tom Cruise in the cockpit; he’s really in it – with a professional pilot controlling the jet.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer says the sequel is “a love letter to aviation”, with Cruise and the rest of the cast facing up to 9G’s of pressure and experiencing firsthand the thrilling manouvres one sees in the film.

Some of these were so dangerous that Cruise needed to get permission from the United States Navy in order to film them, with the cast having to endure three months of grueling training in order to be able to handle the G-forces when they sat in the F/A-18s.

Watch the official trailer here for Top Gun: Maverick, starring Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly and Ed Harris.
