All aircraft evolve with time, most get better and some do not. But, Cirrus is getting better and better, and if the 6th generation of the SR series is anything to go by, then watch this space.
Cirrus first launched the G6 in 2017, the smartest, safest and most advanced model of the best-selling SR series of piston aircraft. The G6 became the benchmark for high-performance, single engine aircraft.
Equipped standard with a Garmin Cirrus Perspective PLUS flight deck, luxury automotive inspired Cirrus Spectra™ wingtip lighting, premium cockpit connectivity solutions and more, the G6 gives owners and operators a completely elevated ground, pre-flight, cabin and in-flight experience unrivalled by any other manufacturer.
In January 2022, Cirrus announced further speed and aesthetic improvements. The 2022 G6 SR features sleeker wing and tail surfaces and redesigned wheel pants, resulting in true airspeeds of up to 9 knots (17km/h) faster in cruise speed.
The new model’s ice panel transition seams are smoothed and the wheel pant tolerances tightened to further reduce drag. These aerodynamic refinements also contribute to both reduced fuel consumption and faster flight segments.
The 2022 G6 SR reaches all new levels of sophistication, performance and customer convenience with a new, multi-functional USB panel that features both USB-A and USB-C ports and keeping mobile devices such as phones or laptops charged throughout the trip.
Now in its sixth generation with over 8,000 aircraft delivered, the SR Series leads the market as the best-selling, high-performance, single-engine piston aircraft for 20 years in a row and provides seamless luxury, exceptional performance, intelligent connectivity and unparalleled safety features.
“This latest update to the G6 embodies our passion for continued innovation and commitment to design,” said Ivy McIver, Director of the SR Series Product Line.
The new state-of-the-art Cirrus Spectra wingtips deliver unrivalled visibility and commanding presence both in the air and on the ramp

Cirrus Perspective+ by Garmin
At the core of the revolutionary G6 is the all new, next generation Cirrus Perspective+ flight deck by Garmin. Perspective+ takes features Cirrus pilots have come to love and makes them even better.
Ten (10x) times faster processing speed than prior Cirrus Perspective® avionics gives pilots enhanced performance and safety capabilities found in advanced turbine flight decks, such as animated datalink weather, SurfaceWatch™ safety protection, payload management, visual approach capabilities, wireless database uploads and more.
The all-new keypad controller sports a Cirrus-first QWERTY interface, allowing you to make a seamless transition from your smartphone, tablet or laptop to your personal aircraft. And to make navigating the avionics and flight deck interface even easier, Perspective+ has an all new HOME key – instantly bringing you back to your main navigating functions with the touch of just one button.
New Autopilot
The new autopilot controller, which features the iconic Blue Level Button first brought to market by Cirrus, with the optional automatic Yaw Damper functionality to the same controller used on the revolutionary Vision Jet.

Cirrus Spectra™ Wingtips
Taking cues from high performance luxury and exotic automobiles once again, Cirrus Aircraft has redefined and raised the definition of ‘ramp presence’ and lighting safety for personal aircraft. Working with Whelen Engineering, (known for their in emergency lighting and signalling solutions), Cirrus Aircraft developed the Cirrus Spectra wingtip.
Incorporating ultra-high performance LEDs behind one continuous lens, the dual-strobe Spectra wingtips combine power, style, and intelligence. Brightness has increased two-fold for better visibility on landings, automotive-style wingtip halo lighting automatically operates within 300’ of the surface and on the ground making an iconic and bold statement, and pulsing “wig-wag” functionality above 300’ maximises visibility to others giving the G6 an unmistakable presence anywhere in the world, day and night. The new Cirrus-designed Spectra wingtips introduced in 2017 are now standard on every G6 SR20.
Engine (only on SR20 aircraft )
The aircraft now comes equipped with a modernized Lycoming IO-390, 215HP powerplant. This four-cylinder G6 SR20 creates a step change in the ownership experience as it increases power while, through a collection of additional enhancements, also increasing useful load by up to 150lbs (68kg).

Pilot and Passenger Convenience
Luggage compartment access becomes easier with the new remote unlock capability and keyless entry. With just a simple push of a button, you can lock and unlock the baggage door with the key. The baggage door opens past 90 degrees and stays open during loading.
With safety in mind, the G6 SR features Cirrus Aircraft Spectra™ illuminated steps offering better step and ground visibility for a more secure entry and exit during dark or low light conditions. The Cirrus ‘puddle light’ logo projected onto the ramp adds an extra touch of style. This is what you would expect in this class of aircraft.
Advanced Aircraft Insight with Cirrus IQ™
New for 2022, Cirrus IQ enhances aircraft connectivity providing increased insight. The Cirrus IQ status screen is redesigned to include aircraft model designation along with a new navigation bar featuring aircraft status, inspection intervals and your warranty expiration date.
- Maintenance Minder tracks approaching inspections and sends notifications when they are due. When flying, the flight hour meter automatically updates the inspection cards by providing a progress bar and countdown to the upcoming inspection event.
- My Trips module automatically logs every flight and curates key trip statistics and achievements earned while flying. My Trips will be released in February 2022.
- The Warranty section references the date and flight hour limits of coverage for Spinner-to-Tail warranty, and CMX coverage, if applicable.
Exterior and Interior Aesthetics
Cirrus Aircraft has introduced eight new exterior paint colours to the range. The Cirrus Xi Design team, in partnership with Sherwin Williams Aerospace, developed a new paint formulation process unlocking incredible potential and enhancing colour definition and flexibility.
Besides the new colour options, you now can select an exclusive package with interior leather options to really define and echo your own style.
