On 21 October 2025, Cape Town International Airport proudly welcomed the Kenya Airways TAC 2025 Showcase Flight, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner – the first flight in Africa powered by Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) produced on the continent. This milestone demonstrates Africa’s ability to innovate and lead in the global transition toward greener, low-carbon aviation solutions.
Assistant General Manager Shaheed Regal said, “It’s inspiring to see innovation of this scale start right here in Africa, and we must continue exploring opportunities that move our continent forward. Achievements like this show what is possible when technology, sustainability and African ingenuity come together.”
The flight marks a significant step in reducing aviation’s carbon footprint, while reinforcing Africa’s growing leadership in sustainable technology and green-growth transformation. It also showcases the potential for homegrown SAF production to support the continent’s aviation sector in the years ahead.
We celebrate this proud African achievement, proving that the future of sustainable flight begins right here, at home, and setting a powerful example for innovation across the globe.
