First Gripen E Fighter Produced in Brazil Unveiled

Brazil has reached a major milestone with the unveiling of its first locally produced Saab Gripen E fighter jet, marking its entry into a select group of nations capable of manufacturing advanced supersonic aircraft.

The aircraft was presented on 25 March at Embraer’s facility in Gavião Peixoto during a ceremony attended by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Defence Minister José Múcio Monteiro Filho and senior leadership from both industry and the Brazilian Air Force.

The programme highlights the strong partnership between Saab and Embraer, focused on technology transfer, industrial growth and long-term cooperation. Production takes place in Brazil using a mix of local and international suppliers, strengthening the country’s aerospace capability.

Before entering service, the aircraft will undergo testing and will later join the fleet at Anápolis Air Force Base. The Gripen E is already supporting Quick Reaction Alert missions, protecting key national airspace.

Under the 2014 agreement, Brazil will receive 36 aircraft, including both single-seat Gripen E and two-seat Saab Gripen F variants. Deliveries began in 2020 and continue to progress steadily.

The Gripen E offers advanced avionics, sensor fusion and multi-role capability, ensuring effective performance in modern combat environments while enhancing Brazil’s defence readiness and industrial strength.
