Airlink adds first E195-E2

Airlink has taken delivery of its first Embraer E195-E2, the lead aircraft in a wider fleet renewal aimed at boosting regional connectivity across Southern Africa.

By Travel and Tour World

The jet is leased from Azorra, with the partnership allowing for up to 10 airframes to enter service over the next few years. The type’s lower fuel burn, reduced emissions and quieter operations suit short-to-medium intra-African routes where demand is growing and capacity is tight.

Configured for 136 seats, the E195-E2 lets Airlink add frequency on core city pairs and open thinner routes that larger jets skip. That supports tourism by linking major hubs — Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban — with secondary destinations such as Gqeberha and Polokwane, and strengthens day-return options for business travel.

Expected benefits

  • Lower operating costs from improved fuel efficiency
  • Reduced carbon and noise footprint
  • Faster turnarounds and better schedule reliability
  • Cabin upgrades: larger bins, modern lighting and a quieter ride

Airlink positions the aircraft as a more responsible travel option, aligning cost and carbon goals while keeping fares competitive. The move supports a broader regional push for sustainable growth in aviation and tourism.
