ACSA and Mangaung Sign MoU to Boost Bram Fischer Airport Development

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) and the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality have signed a Memorandum of Understanding at Bram Fischer International Airport to drive airport development, logistics growth and regional investment. This strategic partnership aims to strengthen collaboration between the airport and the municipality while supporting economic development and improving connectivity across the Free State.

The MoU establishes a framework for coordinated planning and cooperation on a range of initiatives. Key focus areas include economic growth and investment attraction, skills development, infrastructure development, tourism promotion, cargo and logistics expansion and aerotropolis development. By aligning airport expansion with municipal priorities, the partnership seeks to position Bram Fischer International Airport as a hub for aviation, commercial activity and regional trade, while also supporting long-term job creation and skills transfer in the province.

Through this agreement, ACSA and the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality aim to unlock new investment opportunities and enhance the airport precinct’s role as a catalyst for regional development. The MoU also provides a platform for implementing joint projects that strengthen regional value chains, expand cargo and logistics capabilities, and promote tourism and business activity in the surrounding areas.

Both entities emphasised that the partnership will support sustainable growth and ensure that the development of the airport is closely integrated with the city’s long-term economic and spatial strategies. By fostering continuous collaboration and coordinated planning, the MoU is designed to deliver tangible socio-economic benefits for the people of Mangaung and the wider Free State, while reinforcing Bram Fischer International Airport’s position as a key gateway for the region.

This agreement reflects ACSA’s commitment to its airport city and aerotropolis development strategy, demonstrating how targeted partnerships with municipalities can drive inclusive growth, strengthen infrastructure and create new opportunities for local businesses and communities.
