South African Airways (SAA) has expanded its African network with the launch of a new twice-daily service between Johannesburg and Gaborone, which commenced on 4 November 2025. The new route strengthens direct connectivity between South Africa and Botswana while also enhancing access to SAA’s wider regional destinations such as Windhoek, Lusaka, Harare and Kinshasa as well as intercontinental routes including São Paulo and Perth.

Speaking at the launch event in Gaborone, SAA Group CEO Professor John Lamola said, “This route is more than a flight, it’s a strategic link in SAA’s broader commitment to enhancing intra-African connectivity. It reflects our vision to support trade, tourism and regional integration across the continent.” By leveraging Johannesburg as a central hub, the airline facilitates efficient passenger and cargo movement, creating seamless travel corridors across Southern Africa.

The new schedule includes two daily return flights, one in the morning departing Johannesburg at 06:35 and returning from Gaborone at 08:25, and an afternoon rotation departing Johannesburg at 16:40 and returning from Gaborone at 18:30. The service is designed to support both passenger travel and freight logistics, including high-value and time-sensitive goods such as mining components, agricultural exports and medical supplies. Integration with multi-modal transport via the Walvis Bay corridor further strengthens Botswana’s role in regional supply chains connecting the Atlantic coast to global markets.

With this expansion, SAA continues to drive Africa’s economic growth through strategic aviation infrastructure, offering enhanced travel options, strengthening regional trade links and reinforcing its mission to be Africa’s leading world-class airline.
