Jean-Jacques Wallis Puts South Africa on the Global Wingsuit Map

If you’ve seen breathtaking footage of a wingsuit pilot gliding off Table Mountain, you were likely watching Jean-Jacques Wallis. At 35, Wallis is one of the fastest wingsuit flyers in the world, reaching speeds of up to 230 km/h and showcasing South Africa on the international extreme sports stage.

With over two decades of experience in wingsuit flying, B.A.S.E. jumping, speedflying and paragliding, Wallis continues to push the limits of human flight. His July 2025 jumps over Table Mountain saw him gliding mere metres from the iconic terrain before deploying his parachute at sunset—a display of skill, precision and passion.

Next, Wallis will compete in the 11th WWL Grand Prix at Tianmen Mountain, China, one of the world’s premier aerial competitions. For Wallis, it all began with a single skydive at age 12, a leap that ignited a lifelong passion.

Despite the risks of wingsuit flying, Wallis prioritises safety. “You just need to stay disciplined and competent to do it safely, like any other sport,” he says. Through his daring feats, Wallis is not only flying fast, he’s elevating South African extreme sports on the global stage.
