Bell at 90: Elevating the future of flight

Bell Textron Inc., a pioneer in vertical flight, is celebrating its 90th anniversary — marking nine decades of industry-defining milestones, breakthrough innovation, and mission-critical performance across the globe.

By Jarryd Sinovich

From the historic Bell X-1 that first broke the sound barrier in 1947, to helicopters that have served on battlefields, in disaster zones, and as medevac lifelines, Bell’s journey has been one of relentless progress. Its aircraft have reshaped the skies — and the lives they touch.

A special edition by Vertical Magazine honours this legacy, highlighting Bell’s contributions to space exploration, military advancement, and modern urban mobility. Today, Bell is setting its sights on a bolder future — pushing the limits of rotorcraft with tiltrotor propulsion, autonomous flight, hybrid-electric systems, and futuristic platforms like the Bell Nexus and HSVTOL. As Bell steps confidently into its 10th decade, it continues to honour its mission: to move people, empower missions, and redefine the vertical frontier.
